FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What buyers ask before they launch a card programme.

Ask us directly
What cards can I issue?

TNKR issues virtual Mastercard prepaid cards for programmes in the Philippines. Each card is created by API, is active the moment it is created, and is funded from a PayMongo wallet balance, so it can spend only what the balance holds. TNKR does not issue Visa, credit or debit cards, and physical cards are not available today.

Do I need my own licence?

No. TNKR lets Philippine programmes issue Mastercard cards without a card licence of their own, through BIN sponsorship. The cards are issued by PayMongo Payments, Inc., and balances are e-money held in PayMongo wallets. If you hold your own licence and want balances kept on your own books, the own-licence model is available in early access.

What is BIN sponsorship?

TNKR's BIN sponsorship lets a Philippine fintech, lender or enterprise issue Mastercard cards on a bank identification number (BIN) sponsored through PayMongo, so the programme launches without applying to the network on its own. Sponsorship covers programmes in the Philippines, and the cards are issued by PayMongo Payments, Inc.

How long does it take to launch?

TNKR cards are live the moment the API creates them. The launch date for a full programme depends on its design, onboarding and compliance review, and TNKR sets that plan with you at scoping. BIN sponsorship removes the separate network approval a programme would otherwise need to secure on its own.

How do I control what each card spends?

TNKR cards are prepaid on a PayMongo wallet balance, so no card can spend more than the balance holds. Each card carries its own spending limit, and you can freeze, unfreeze or cancel any card by API. Controls by merchant name, day, time and amount are available, and category, country and channel controls are in early access.

How does the card API work?

TNKR issues cards through an API. A single create request returns a virtual Mastercard that is already active, and further calls set its spending limit or freeze, unfreeze and cancel it. Every card draws on a PayMongo wallet balance you fund, so your system decides who gets a card, how much it can spend and when it stops.

Can we run TNKR outside the Philippines?

TNKR issues cards in the Philippines today. In Singapore and Cambodia, TNKR supplies the issuing technology to a licensed partner in that market, which holds the licence and the customer funds; this model is in early access. Indonesia is being scoped. Each programme is planned with the partner, and the partner's licensing sets the pace.

Who regulates TNKR?

TNKR is a product of PayMongo. PayMongo Payments, Inc. is regulated by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas as an Operator of Payment Systems and an Electronic Money Issuer, and TNKR cards are issued by PayMongo Payments, Inc.
